As many as eighteen persons have died and seven injured in a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, The Nation reports.

The accident, which occurred on Saturday night some metres away from Isara Bridge at Ogere, Ogun State, involved three vehicles.

None of them had registration numbers, and the impact of the crash set off an explosion and then fire, which charred 18 people.

Superintendent Route Commander Florence Okpe FRSC, who is the Public Education Officer for Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command, said seven persons were rescued.

He said the injured were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while one of the victims that were rejected by the hospital was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

Umar attributed the crash to speeding and dangerous driving, describing the crash as an avoidable one.
