Following the increasing insecurity, banditry, violent riots and kidnappings in Nigeria, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has given orders to security agents that anyone found with an AK-47 machine gun illegally in the country must be shot by the military.
The president gave this directive on Thursday, March 11, at a meeting held with the traditional rulers of Nigeria at the State House, dignitaries who were present at the meeting included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Also present in the meeting were several top security officers.
The main agenda of the meeting was to bring about efforts to ameliorate the current security situation in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his suprise about the incessant killings in the Northwest amongst the people of the same culture.
“But what surprises is what is happening in the Northwest where the same people with the same culture, are killing each other, taking their livestock and burning properties.
The president also gave reasons why anyone found carrying AK-47 illegally should be shot by the military.
“And one thing that got to the press which I read myself was that anyone with an AK-47 will be shot. This is because AK-47 is supposed to be registered and it is only given to security officials.”
