ASUU Chapters Disagree Over FG’s Offer To End 8 Months Strike.

The ongoing mediation between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union Of Universities(ASUU) is yet to yield any positive outcome despite pleas of many Nigerian students.

The Nation reports that some branches of ASUU are yet to reach an agreement on whether to accept Federal Government’s offer to end the near-a-year strike.

Although reports have been gathered that all branches of ASUU will hold a meeting in order to reconcile their differences on Friday, November 27th.

Reports gathered from the Nation also said that ASUU may have a decision to vote on since some of the union branches are insisting that the Federal Government must meet all the demands of the body before the strike is called off.

The Ahmadu Bello University branch however, agreed with the government on the N40 million Earned Academic Allowance(EAA).

However, the university has given a condition that the government must make payment of the allowance before the strike is called off.

Meanwhile, reports have been gathered that the Federal University of Petroleum resources, Delta State, has said that an agreement must be reached between FG and ASUU before the strike is called off.

Ezekiel Agbalagba who is the chairman of the University, said that the Congress on Wednesday, November 25th, rejected the N25 billion for revatilisation of varsities, but accepted the EAA.

Ezekiel said, ” We are willing to suspend the strike, but some of those contending issues should be thrashed and thrashed at once.”
