The government of Katsina state in the late hours of Thursday, December 17, announced the release of the hundreds of secondary school boys who were kidnapped on Friday, December 11, in Kankara local government of Katsina state.
The news was announced in a statement made by the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie.
Legit.ng reports Onochie announced that the government of Katsina state led by Governor Aminu Bello Masari confirmed that the secondary school boys have been released in the evening of Thursday, December 17.
Bashir Ahmad, the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on news media, also confirmed the release of the school boys in a tweet.
In his words;
“The abducted students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, has been rescued, the Katsina state government has confirmed the news. Alhamdulillah!
Governor of Katsina State Reacts
The governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has reacted to the release of the secondary school boys kidnapped in Kankara. In his statement the governor said that the rescued bouts will be reunited with their families later today after they finish their medical checkups.
Masari assured the people of Katsina State that security will be increased in their communities and schools to ensure that no attack happens again.
He Said;
“We have protected and secured all our schools. We are going to increase the number of security operatives in our schools to make sure we don’t experience what we have experienced in the last six days. We want to encourage communities around those schools to form another security unit around those schools.”
He further went ahead to commend the security agents for their efforts in securing the area where the students where camped.
Governor Masari in his speech also addressed the whole nation said, “We can overcome our insecurity challenges if we all cooperate, unite and provide critical information to the security agents.”
