Human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi has annouced that Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Igboho will soon be released from detention in Benin Republic.
The Yoruba nation agitator has been in custody for over 200 days since he was arrested at Cotonou airport back in July 2021 as he attempted to escape with his family to Germany.
Sunday Igboho is popularly known for trying to instigate the separation of the Yorubas from Nigeria, considering the endless sufferings inflicted on them by Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State.
Things didn’t go as planned though, as he was arrested and thrown in detention in a prison in Benin Republic.
However, Olajengbesi, who secured the release of 12 of Igboho’s aide has annouced that his release date is bear and this would spark wild jubilation among the western tribe.
“Chief Sunday Igboho will be out very soon and there will be massive jubilation across the entire Yorubaland, ” the Abuja-based lawyer said.
“He is no doubt a courageous man. This is very authoritative just that our Yoruba leaders should stop being selfish and allow good to prevail.”
This news surfaces barely two days after members of the Agbekoya Worldwide annouced that they would implore traditional ways to rescue Igboho if he isn’t released soon by the authorities of Benin Republic.
The association’s worldwide President, Kamorudeen Okiki, who spoke on Thursday, said, “Sunday Igboho is not a criminal. We will continue to say that.
“We know that it is the Federal Government that is holding Igboho in Benin Republic, but we are telling Benin Republic authorities now to legally release him using their court.
“They should release him legally and quickly or we will use our traditional means and powers to take Igboho out of the court.”
