The president has sent his well wishes to the family of the second lady of Nigeria.

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has condoled the Aguiyi-Ironsi family on the passing of Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi.

Victoria, 97, who is regarded as the second lady of Nigeria, is the widow of Nigeria’s first military ruler General Johnson Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi.

According to a close friend of the family, she passed away at 5am on Monday, 23rd of August, exactly a day after her friend passed away.

President Buhari has however, sent his condolences via his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity , Mr. Femi Adesina.

The President stated that she (Victoria) would be remembered for laying a solid foundation for wives of Military officers.

“Victoria also passionately championed the welfare and wellbeing of families of military officers,” the statement read.

During her life time, Victoria was one of the founding members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association.

Despite loosing her husband to a Military coup in 1966, Victoria never stopped working for the greater good of the country and for peace, stability and reconciliation of the land.

President Buhari also stated that her strength and courage during Nigeria’s darkest hours places her a God-fearing woman of valor.

He however, hopes that all her efforts and labour for Nigeria would not be in vain as he urges Nigerians to pray for the repose of the departed soul and comfort those mourning her.
