On Thursday, February 11th the federal government of Nigeria announced threats to stop paying salaries to the members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASUU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU).
The threat was announced by the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige on behalf of Nigeria government.
The minister used Section 43 of the Trade Dispute Act 2004 and the International Labour Organization to back the threat, he said that the statues permits the government of a state to stop paying workers salaries when they go on strike.

Ngige Said;
“It is against the ILO statutes. The ILO statute says you have a right to go on strike and your employer has a right not to pay you and use the same money to keep the enterprise going.”
