Football super agent Mino Raiola dies at 54

The super agent suffered from an undisclosed illness before his death.

Football super-agent, Mino Raiola passed away at the age of 54 after a brief battle with an undisclosed illness.

Raiola was admitted to the hospital for an unspecified illness earlier this week, although it was falsely reported that he had died on April 28 by many media outlets.

However, his death has been confirmed by his family on Saturday, April 30, via an official statement on Twitter.

A statement from his family reads: “In infinite sorrow, we share the passing of the most caring and amazing football agent that ever was.

“Mino fought until the end with the same strength he put on negotiation tables to defend our players. As usual, Mino made us proud and never realised it.

“Mino touched so many lives through his work and wrote a new chapter in the history of modern football. His presence will forever be missed.

“Mino’s mission of making football a better place for players will continue with the same passion.”

His family also thanked everyone who offered support during his battle with illness, while also asking for privacy at this difficult time.

Raiola is regarded as one of the most renowned and recognised agents in football. He represents some of the biggest names in football, including Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Erling Haaland.

Born in Italy, but moved to the Netherlands as a child, Raiola has been working as an agent for the last four decades.

He worked through the modern financial boom in football such as the growth of the Champions League and was admired for his ruthless style to ensure that he secured the best deals for his clients.

Raiola has been responsible for some of the biggest football transfers, such as Pogba’s world record £89 million move to Manchester United in 2016.

He was also responsible for Matthijs de Ligt’s £73m move from Ajax to Juventus in 2019, while also involved for Gianluigi Donnarumma’s free transfer move to PSG last year.
