There is no shame in feeling less confident from time to time. Having self-doubt is human. If it was not a human phenomenon to sometimes question our abilities, people would not be so bent on making positive affirmations a daily ritual.

As long as you live in this mortal world filled with fierce competition, expectations, and pressure, you are bound to sometimes feel you are not as good as you would love to be.

Negative career thoughts such as, “I am not making enough progress, and my development pace is slow compared to my mates. There are lots of people doing what I do, so I might not stand out.” Might from time to time creep into our consciousness. We sometimes even feel we are not attractive and might never catch the fancy of those we desire.

Self-doubt is not a pleasant state of mind, but the good news is, Self-doubt is not peculiar to you. It is a situation even the best of us can relate to. So do not fret when you occasionally have such sentiments.

Now that it has been established that there is absolutely no wrong in occasionally doubting yourself, here are 4 ways to successfully handle self-doubt.

4 Ways to Successfully Tackle Self Doubt

Regular Positive Affirmations

In my worldview, one of the favourable outcomes of making positive affirmations a regular ritual is that it can serve as a good coping mechanism when you face self-doubt. The moment I feel I cannot soar above a task, I begin to profess positive affirmations such as; “I am awesome and capable beyond my awareness. I can excel at anything I choose to do.”

Even some of the greatest achievers have coined various personal positive affirmations to help them stay mentally confident. The ace footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, mentioned that he constantly tells himself that he is the best. This keeps him confident and maintains his drive to break more grounds despite opposition.

Listen to Uplifting Messages

Words are powerful and can move you from point zero, into a state of absolute confidence. When you lack the self-confidence you need to excel, make time to listen to uplifting messages.

This has worked for a lot of people including myself. There are tons of videos addressing all sorts of situations and uplifting those who feel down. Listen to these messages often, and it will help boost your confidence.

Frankly, listening to people who have overcome hurdles and are not inspiring others to do the same, generates in you the drive and confidence you seek.

Talk to Someone

Sharing how you feel makes you feel better most of the time. If you ever feel your confidence dropping probably in your career, academics and any other scenario. Talking to someone pays. Honestly, from the conversation, you might discover what is triggering your self-doubt.

The saying, “Two good heads are better than one” never goes out of fashion.

Reminisce on Past Wins

This is something I do and endorse. Each time I begin to doubt myself, I reminisce on the times I proved myself wrong and it boosts my resolve and confidence.

If I could succeed in the past, I can succeed even better today, because I am a better version of the person I was yesterday. Sometimes, people doubt themselves because in the face of problems they tend to forget how much of a conqueror they are. Reminiscing on the past is sometimes the answer to our self-doubts.

Conclusion

When you come to terms that there is nothing inappropriate with sometimes questioning your capabilities, you will deal with such phases adequately. When you are in that phase, apply the aforementioned ways of handling self-doubts.
