The Swedish side announced his signing on Thursday, but thoughts have continued to be shared about his age.

On Thursday, 3rd of February, Swedish football club Mjällby AIF annouced that they have completed the signing of 18-year old striker Silas Nwankwo from Nasarawa United.

The supposed 18-year old scored a league high 19 goals in the 2020-21 season of the Nigerian Professional Football League finishing as the joint top scorer. He was also named in the league’s team of the year for his exploits.

This performance was enough for him to secure a move to the Swedish club who annouced on Thursday that the Nigerian has signed a four-year contract with the club.

A statement from the club website read: “Mjallby AIF is pleased to announce that 18-year-old forward Silas Nwankwo is ready for the club. The striker has signed a contract that is valid until the 2025 season.”

However, many seem not to agree with the age of the player who many say he falsified his age. According to them, Nwankwo happens to be way older than 18 years.

“On Football Manager 2021, he is 24 while on Football Manager 2022, he is suddenly 17 years old,” One of them wrote on Twitter “Senseless.”

Most of the accusations are coming from people who claim to have attended the same higher institution of learning with the forward. He attended Enugu State University Science and Technology.
