“He wins for himself”-Lukaku aims to settle feud with Ibrahimovic

The Belgian striker believes the presence of superstars in the league is helping him to push himself harder.

Romelu Lukaku appears to have buried the hatchet with Zlatan Ibrahimovic after they squared up to each other earlier this season. It was in a Derby match between Inter Milan and Ac milan which saw the pair butt heads together. Inter would have the last laugh, however as they won the match with Ibrahimovic seeing a red card.

Meanwhile, A Lukaku-fired Inter would go ahead and finish ahead of their old foes in the Serie A. The Nerazzuri won their first Scudetto in a decade and the Belgian believes Ibrahimovic brings star power to the Italian league.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Lukaku spoke respectfully of the Swede;

“A great player, he has won everywhere he has played, he has scored more than 500 goals.” He said

“We need players of this level in Serie A. He wants to win for himself, me for Inter, [Cristiano] Ronaldo for Juve, now there is Mou [Jose Mourinho] at Roma: they are all good things for Italy. The level is raised, let’s hope Inter win again.”

Talking about the on-pitch fight, Lukaku has admitted some regret over the incident, which saw him react angrily to a challenge and subsequently stopped the game for several minutes.

“We were losing 1-0, I missed a goal, I was a bit angry. His [Ibra’s] words struck me. I’m not happy with having reacted like this. I am humble and calm, I am a winner and I fight to the death for my team-mates and for the victory.” Lukaku said
