As a writer, getting something to write about is hard. The ideas wouldn’t just come and then you experience “the writer’s block”.
Consistency is one virtue a writer should have, but that can be hard. Sometimes, you just don’t know what to write about and then you feel like “this isn’t my calling”.
How can you generate ideas as a writer on your own?
There are 3 things that can aid you when generating ideas on your own:
- Readers
Yes, your readers are the first people to put in mind when generating ideas on what to write about.
You’ve got to empathize with them. What do they want to learn? What would they like to read? Is this idea good enough for them?
I know you would be wondering how you could know what your readers would like to read, right? As a writer, the best way to be efficient is to focus on an industry/niche. You could decide to write on technology, health, sport, politics and so on, but whichever you choose you should focus only on it. That way, you could make some research and know what your readers might want to read.
- Quora
This is a question-answer site. You can find answers to whatever questions your readers might here concerning your industry/niche. All you need to do is just type the question and it brings the results for you.
- Google search console
This is that box you type whatever question you have into when you make use of google.com or google chrome.
This console provides you with actual keywords people are typing in and looking for answers to.
There are three ways to leverage google:
- Auto complete functionality
This is what happens when you try to type a query into the console and before you complete typing it, google suggests a query for you.
- Related searches section
When you eventually enter your query in the search bar, “related searches” appear at the bottom of the search results page and they offer additional suggestions for you.
- “People also search for” box
This appears when you enter your query, you click on a result and then you return back to the search results page. This gives you further clues on what to write.
I hope this helps you to bolster your writing career as you go on.
