“I don’t need to move to another league to prove myself”- Lewandowski

Lewandowski awarded with his European Golden Boot award

The Polish striker may have mooted any speculations concerning a move away from the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski has stated that he doesn’t need to move to another league to prove himself, after picking up his European Golden Boot award.

Lewandowski was in prolific form during the 2020-21 season where he scored 41 league goals in 29 Bundesliga matches.

That goal tally saw him surpass Gerd Müller’s record for most goals in a Bundesliga season, and also win the European Golden Boot for the first time in his career.

The 33-year old was finally presented with the award on Tuesday and he quickly took time to establish his commitment to Bayern.

“I don’t have to prove myself in another league,” he said. “I can compete with the best from other leagues in the Champions League.

“I am 100 per cent focused on Bayern Munich, I don’t think about anything else but my team.”

Rumours have it that Bayern could look to bring in Borrusia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland as his long term successor, but Lewandowski believes he still has years ahead of him at the top level.

“I am still here – and I will be here for a long time!” Lewandowski claimed.

Age, these are just numbers. I feel very good, I have the best stats I’ve ever had. I know that with my body I can play at the top level for years to come. I’m like a good wine and I hope to get even better.”

He would he hoping to add to his goal tally this weekend when they face bottom side, Furth in the Bundesliga on Friday.
