2023 has been a year of fulfillment for several music rising stars like Tyla, whose hit single ‘Water’ has skyrocketed her to American success.
As a result, she was recently interviewed by RollingStone, where she highlighted the genres that influenced her music, particularly her smash hit ‘Water’. Accoring to her, Amapiano is at the core of her hit single.
Tyla stated that R&B played a major role in shaping her music as she was influenced by both male and female R&B stars.
The music star acknowledged the influence of Afrobeats in her music as she reference Asake’s use of stacked vocals in his music as her favorite element in Afrobeats.
Stacked vocals have been a constant in Asake’s music ever since his debut single “Omo Ope”. It is the use of multiple (crowd) vocals like orchestra in delivering a part of a song.
Both Tyla and Asake have enjoyed a successful 2023, which have seen them rise to the top of the game. The two have been nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at next year’s Grammy awards set for February 5, 2024.
