I stole a cellphone, not a motorcycle – Drama unfolds as suspect counters prosecutor in court.

While the prosecutor has been asked to provide a witness at the next sitting, the accused has been granted bail on a certain condition.

A young man, identified as Auwal Abubakar, on Thursday, appeared before a Shar’ia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

According to reports, the 24-year-old was charged to court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle that belonged to one Al-Amin Khamis.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him by the prosecutor, stating that he stole a cell phone and not a motorcycle.

The prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, told the court that the nominal complainant filed a report about his missing motorcycle which he had parked in front of his shop at Bacab Plaza back in 2023.

He added that the motorcycle worth N225,000 at that time was not found until September 2011, when the accused was caught at the same location trying to steal another motorcycle.

” That was when the complainant strongly suspected you, Auwal Abubakar, as the person that stole his motorcycle last year,” he said.

The judge ordered the prosecutor to present his witnesses at the next sitting while he granted the accused bail on the condition that he provides the Imam of his area.

The case was adjourned till September 25 for another court hearing.
