Boris Johnson has finally resigned from his position as the United Kingdom prime minister after three years of service.

This was expected to happen though, after dozens of his ministers quit his government over the occurrence of a series of scandals.

While the search for a successor is still ongoing, British Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss has called for calmness and unity while the process is ongoing.

“The Government under Boris’s leadership had many achievements — delivering Brexit, vaccines and backing Ukraine. We need calmness and unity now and to keep governing while a new leader is found.”

Johnson, however stated that his resignation was “clearly now the will of the parliamentary party”, adding that the move would pave way for a new minister to replace him.

“I waited so long to make the decision as I have been keen to deliver on the voters’ mandate in person as I felt it was my duty and obligation to do what I had promised,” he said during his speech.

Johnson also stated how proud he was of his achievements in while in office and thanked his wife, children, armed forces and other members of his government.
