Thiago missed Liverpool’s premier league match against Arsenal on Monday, but is likely to appear mid October.

Liverpool’s midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for coronavirus, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The midfielder joined the premier league champions last month from and made his debut for the reds in a 2-0 win against Chelsea. The midfielder achieved a remarkable feat on his debut and was a surprise omission against Arsenal on Monday. Liverpool won the match 3-1.

Jurgen Klopp revealed post-match on Monday that he was absent due to fitness reasons and would not feature for the club until mid October.

Liverpool released a statement via their official twitter account regarding the issue. Check out the tweet below:

Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara tests positive for coronavirus.

“Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara has tested positive of Covid-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

“The 29-year old, who missed Monday’s match against Arsenal, has exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is in good  health and is getting better.

” The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to Covid-19 and Thiago will remain in self isolation for the required period of time.

The Premier league announced on Monday that 10 players or club staff members had returned positive results in the latest round of testing. This is the highest number since testing began.

The Reds first team doctor, Dr Jim Moxen, said: “it’s the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of the Covid-19 test.

“We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is ok. He will be self isolating  now as per the guidelines and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon.”

Liverpool face Arsenal again on Thursday in the Carabao cup before a trip to Villa park on Sunday.
