The defender will appear in court today, Friday to face charges of sexual related offences.

Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy arrived at the Chester Magistrates’ court to face charges of rape and sexual assault.

The French international arrived in a prison van alongside a Police security car, with his case to be called on Friday.

It was reported on Thursday that Mendy was being held in custody on account of six charges. He is charged with three counts of rape on a day in October 2020 with another one on a date this week and a sexual assault on a female back in January 2021.

Mendy is also charged with breaching bail conditions.

After the reports were confirmed, Manchester City suspended his as a result of these charges levelled against him.

“Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation. The matter is subject to a legal process and the Club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete,” the club said in a statement.

Mendy hasn’t found playing time regularly at City after signing from Monaco in 2017 for £52 million. Most of which is due to the frequent injuries which has limited him to just 75 appearances in all competitions for the club.
