“Nigerians Deserve Good Leadership” — John Boyega #EndSARS.

Nigerian born British actor, John Boyega has gone on Twitter to support Nigerian Youths who have been demanding an end to police brutality #EndSARS.

The Star Wars actor took to his page to urge the government to tackle the mounting pressures and take up responsibility, stating that the youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance.

According to him, “The youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance. This situation is tied to many other issues. Please lend your attention to this pressing problem.”

He continued, “We can’t simply enjoy Banana Island every December without noticing the concrete wall placed between Nigerians and their potential. The limitations become unbearable for them and this needs serious attention.”

Ever since the peaceful protests led by music artiste and lawyer, Folarin Falana (better known as Falz) and Runtown (an artist known by that stage name), various leading local and foreign celebs have lent their voice to the cause.

in reality, these nationwide protests are the culmination of three years of anger and public outcry over the illegal kidnapping, harassment, and extortion by the police unit known as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Falz told CNN, “People have been posting online about it for years, but it has been the same sluggish attitude and response to it. Nothing has changed and people keep on being harassed. That’s why we have taken to the streets and we want the government to listen.”

“I’m marching for the ones that are not recognized. We are surprised by the numbers that came out and we are prepared to march again,” he added.

In the meantime…

The government, through Vice president Osinbajo said, “The President is concerned about it, and… wants to see reform.”

“You cannot have a situation where SARS says they are investigating cybercrime by arresting youth carrying laptops and phones. I don’t know how you can investigate that by seizing people’s phones in a taxi or in their cars,” he concluded.

At this point, we trust that the conclusion of this matter will be the first in a chain of activities that will make Nigeria a better place for us. Till then, let’s keep hope alive, shall we?
