Only Peter Obi’s wing of the Labour Party is recognized, according to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
On Thursday, the NLC clarified the situation.
Obi was just announced as the Labour Party’s presidential contender.
The NLC’s declaration comes after Jude Ezenwafor, a former chairman of the LP in Anambra State, was proclaimed the victor of the party’s presidential primary on Wednesday.
In a statement, the NLC’s National President, Ayuba Wabba, stated that the group is not recognized.
“The leadership of the NLC and TUC acknowledge the leadership of the Labour Party led by Barr,” the statement says in part. The leadership includes Julius Abure, a former trade union leader, as well as employees.
“The NLC and TUC are aware of only one presidential primary which was held in Asaba, Delta State on 30th May 2022 and produced HE Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and standard-bearer.”
