As he remains positive that the Super League still exist…

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez has revealed that the Super League remains despite majority of its members withdrawing from the competition.

Twelve of Europe’s top teams announced that they had committed to the Super League last Sunday. These clubs were called the “founding clubs” for the competition. Those intentions were short lived however, as members began to pull out after furious backlash from fans.

All six teams from the Premier League were the first to withdraw, with Perez claiming that one of them “infected” others. This led to further withdrawals from the remaining teams, but Perez claims that the competition still stands.

The Madrid chief claims that clubs who claimed to have withdrawn from the competition still remain contractually binded. He says he they “can’t leave” even if they say they have quit the league.

Perez claims that the competition is contract based and can be revived, although he his disappointed by the failure of the Super League.

I’m not going to explain now what a binding contract is, but the clubs cannot leave.” Perez told Spanish newspaper AS.

“Some of them, because of pressure, have had to say that they’re leaving. But this project or one like it will go forward, and I hope it’s soon.

“The Super League still exists, and the members are still in it. Now we have given ourselves some weeks to think, while we face the violence that some people, who don’t want to lose their privileges, have used to manipulate our project.”

Meanwhile, Perez also warns that all the clubs face bankruptcy unless there an immediate action. “The Super League does not go against domestic competitions and its objective is to ensure that more money is available for all sections of football,” he added.

“The concept is to generate more interest for the games. Nor do I think that the changes which UEFA have made are a real solution to the problem because what has been proposed isn’t even an improvement on the current model.
