Real Madrid have confirmed that Sergio Ramos has tested positive for the virus after the last Covid-19 test that was carried out today.
“Real Madrid CF announces that our player Sergio Ramos has given a positive result in the last Covid-19 test that has been carried out.” The club released via an official statement.
The Spanish defender has played no part in Madrid’s last three games due to a calf injury including a Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Liverpool, and the El-Classico against Barcelona last weekend.
His last appearance for the club was in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League meeting with Atalanta. The 35-year old will now have to self-isolate for 10 days in accordance with quarantine protocol.
This means that Ramos will play no part in the second-leg encounter with Liverpool at Anfield. Zinedine Zidane’s men will be aiming to book their place in the last four of the competition after securing a 3-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu without the defender.
In addition to that, Ramos will also be unavailable for their next two La-Liga games against Getafe and Cadiz, but could make a return against Real Betis at home on April 24 only if he has made full recovery from his calf injury and the coronavirus.
