The Yoruba nation rights activist is still in custody at a prison in Benin Republic.

Popular Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, may be suffering from kidney or lungs diseases according to one his delegates.

One of his lawyers, Yomi Aliyyu, disclosed that the activist could be suffering from a disease related to his internal organs during an interview with BBC Yoruba.

According to him, Mr. Igboho was critically ill and had to be rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.

While speaking, he added that the agitator didn’t have any occurrences of such illness before his arrest.

“Igboho was not diagnosed with this sickness before he was arrested in Cotonou. It was so critical that they had to rush him to the hospital,” he said.

“I can’t tell if he has been returned to the prison from the hospital but what I know is, he’s battling ill health and it seems his kidney and lungs are already being affected.”

Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua have also confirmed the development.

“Yes, he is ill and his kidney appears affected,” they said.

“We are not very sure yet. Another test result is expected for confirmation. We are working on that and I can assure you that he is in safe hands.”

Sunday Igboho was arrested by the DSS on July 16, 2021, after a failed attempt to arrest him at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was arrested together with his wife while travelling to Germany and kept in detention ever since.
