Tokyo Olympics: Brume, Oborududu receive cash prizes

The two Olympic medalist have been rewarded for making Nigeria proud at the ongoing event in Japan.

Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborududu and Bronze medalist Ese Brume have been rewarded with their promised cash of $10,000 (N4.1M) and $7500 (N3M) respectively by the Nigerian Federal government.

Their cash prizes were presented to them by the Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare in a ceromony held at Grand Prince Hotel, Tokyo Japan on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister expressed his delight at their performances at the games.

“There’s no point delaying the reinforcement of these athletes who have made the country proud, that is the reason they were rewarded immediately for their record breaking performance,” Mr. Sunday said.

Blessing won the Olympic silver medal for the Women’s 68kg Wrestling event after falling short at the final. She became the first Nigerian wrestler to win an Olympic medal in Wrestling.

Brume, on the other hand, competed in the Long Jump event were she faced off with reigning world champion Malaika Mihambo and Brittney Reese from the United States and won the bronze medal.

After receiving her prize, Blessing said “I am just super excited and I want to say thank you to all my supporters and the Federal Government of Nigeria for the encouragement”.
