Angry mob set banks ablaze as protests rock Ogun State

The issue of cash scarcity still persists leaving many Nigerians frustrated.

Some yet-to-be identified mob, on Monday, have set ablaze two banks in Sagamu area of Ogun State as they protested the persistent cash scarcity in the country.

According to reports, the mob set ablaze the banks as many banks in the area refused to operate and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) refusing to dispense cash since last week.

The two commercial banks affected were Union bank and Keystone bank.

After setting the banks on fire, the angry mob barricaded the Sagamu expressway, preventing pedestrians and vehicular movements.

This didn’t sit well with the Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, who condemned the attacks and sued for calm.

He also assured that banks would still accept the old naira notes.

“I appeal to all to remain calm and peaceful as we continue to engage the Federal Government.

“This policy is not from the state or local government. Therefore, the destruction of lives and properties will only compound an already bad situation.

“Further, I am also mandating all our market people to continue to accept the old notes. I hereby undertake that no one will lose out for possessing the old notes,” as reported by the Pulse.
