On Friday, June 4th, the federal government of Nigeria, suspended indefinitely the operations of Twitter activities in country.
The suspension of the social media platform was announced by the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed on Friday, June 4th.
According to Mohammed, the social media platform is persistently used for activities that may be used to undermine Nigeria’s corporate existence.
The Statement Released Read;
“The federal government has suspended, Indefinitely, the operations of the micro blogging and social networking service, Twitter.
“The minister of culture and information, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
“The minister said the federal government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.”
