Pep Guardiola’s title winning City boast of six players in the 2020-21 team of the season.
Manchester City have six representatives in the PFA Premier league team of the year, with runner up Manchester United boasting of two players. Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah and Tottenham’s pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min complete the pack.
With Covid-19 restrictions in place, the 2020-21 season still managed to produce excitement despite the absence of fans. Pep Guardiola led City to a third Premier League title in three years despite making a slow start to the campaign.
The Red Devils secured a second place finish, while former winners Liverpool staged a late top four fight and Harry kane won another Golden boot.
Goalkeeper
City’s Ederson gets the nod in goal. The Brazilian secured another Golden Glove, making it back-to-back wins for him.
Throughout the campaign, Ederson missed only two top-flight matches and has 19 clean sheets across 36 appearances for the Citizens.
Defenders
It is unsurprising that City’s pair Ruben Dias and John Stones get the nod at the heart of the defence.
Not too many are capable of making a memorable debut in the Premier League like Ruben Dias.
The Portuguese provided a solid performance for his first season at the Etihad and his widely lauded for improving John Stones defensively. It came as no surprise when he was named the FWA Footballer of the year.
27-year old Joan Cancelo is the third member of a city-dominated back four, with the Portuguese enjoying his most productive season in English football, contributing two goals and three assists to City’s title cause.
Another surprise package of the season, Luke Shaw completes the back four at left-back after enjoying a productive season at Manchester United.
Midfielders
Last season’s PFA of the year winner Kelvin De Bruyne continues to set the midfield standards in the Premier League. The Belgian playmaker provided another season of creativity with 12 assists and 6 goals to his name.
Another club colleague IIkay Gundogan partners with him in midfield after enjoying an excellent campaign, which saw him register a total of 17 goals in all competitions- a personal best for him.
Completing the midfield set-up is another goal-getter, Bruno Fernandes. Bruno spent his first full season at Manchester United in productive manner providing 12 assists in the Premier league for the Red Devils. He also scored a total of 17 goals for the club, ensuring his team secured a second-place finish.
Forwards
Liverpool endured a disappointing title defending campaign, but Egyptian star Mohammed Salah was able to maintain an excellent individual performance.
Salah scored another 22 Premier League goals for the Reds and is now just five short of the reaching a century for the club.
Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min is included makes the cut after he recorded 17 top-flight goals and forming a formidable partnership with Harry kane.
England captain, Harry Kane completes the pack after enjoying another oustanding individual performance. Kane finished the season with a Golden boot and a Playmaker award for his 23 goals and 14 assists.
He his now placed seventh on the list of Premier League’s all-time scorers with 166 goals.
