Many Nigerians have complained about the blockage of their MTN lines even before the July 31st deadline.
Offices of telecommunications company, MTN have been besieged on Monday, July 29, 2024 by aggrieved customers to protest over sim blockage.
Reports say that the company blocked some mobile lines ahead of the June 31st deadline set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
At the beginning of the year, the NCC had instructed telecommunications companies to block any sim not linked with to NIN. However, there had been several deadlines since then before the July 31st deadline was set.
This has prompted many Nigerians, who are unable to use their mobile phone services, to storm MTN offices in Lagos, Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Ibadan, Oshogbo, Sango Otta in Ogun State, and other parts of the country.
Some Nigerians have said that the blockages of mobile lines is a ploy by the government to scuttle the upcoming protest, while some have said the development was to get protesters busy ahead of the nationwide demonstration.
Omoyele Sowore, who is one of the leaders of the upcoming protest, has urged his followers to call out any telecommunications company if they are experiencing difficulties using their lines.
“The revolt might start from their offices tomorrow!” He said.
