ASUU Strike: University of Ibadan ask students to vacate school premises

The decision was taken as a result of the extension of the ongoing strike.

The Management of the University of Ibadan has ordered students that are occupants to vacate its halls of residence, following the extension of the ongoing strile by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)

This was revealed after the management of the university held a meeting on Wednesday, to deliberate on the ongoing strike.

ASUU, on March 14, extended a supposed three weeks warning strike by another eight weeks. Universities across the country have closed down, with the Premier University the lastest to close down.

The directive to close down the university, however, was given on Thursday by the Registrar of the university, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi.

She said: “Management, at its meeting on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, deliberated on the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, which had now been extended by eight (8) weeks.

“As a result, academic activities in the University have become paralysed.

“Consequently, the vice-chancellor, on behalf of Senate, has directed that the university be closed until further notice.

“Therefore, all students are hereby mandated to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the university exempted postgraduate students who have paid their fees and undergraduate students on industrial attachment and practical training from vacating the school.

“Postgraduate students who have paid their school fees and undergraduate students who are on industrial attachment or practical training are exempted from this vacation notice. Such students are to visit the office of the Dean of Students for accommodation arrangement.

“A new date of resumption will be communicated in due course.”
