“At Least 70 Racial Slurs Counted!” – Rashford Racially Abused after Europa Defeat

Manchester United have issued an official statement condemning the abuse on their player after the final on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford claims he has been racially abused on social media after United lost to Villareal in the Europa final.

United lost on penalties to the Spanish side, ultimately failing to deliver a much anticipated trophy for their fans.

After the match, Rashford detailed the racial abuse that flooded his social media accounts despite being a familiar figure in the fight against racism.

The 23-year old forward says at least 70 slurs have been directed towards him after the defeat at Gdansk on Wednesday night.

Rashford noted that a teacher was among those who sent him racist messages, while he also highlighted a fan who had said he deserved abuse for an awful display.

“At least 70 racial slurs on my social accounts counted so far”, Rashford wrote on Twitter. “For those working to make me feel any worse than I already do, good luck trying.”

“I’m more outraged that one of the abusers that left a mountain of monkey emojis in my DM is a maths teacher with an open profile. He teaches children!! And knows that he can freely racially abuse without consequence…” Rashford added.

Shortly after Rashford shared this experience, Manchester United issued a statement condemning the abuse:

“Following the [Europa League] final, our players were subjected to disgraceful racist abuse. If you see any form of abuse or discrimination, act and report it.” The club wrote on twitter.
