Ballon d’ Or: Alex Ferguson names player that should win award

Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the player who should win the Ballon d’ Or this year.

According to Ferguson, Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’ Or because he has broken record after record this year.

Recall that Ronaldo became the leading goalscorer in men’s international football after surpassing Ali Daei’s record this year.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid star also scored his 58th career hat-trick, his 10th for Portugal as they thrashed Luxembourg 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier at Estádio Algarve on Tuesday.

In the wake of the announcement of the 30-man nominees for the Ballon d’Or this year, Ferguson was quoted as saying by MARCA: “Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.

“This year, he has broken record after record.”

Ronaldo was included in the 30-man shortlist for the 2021 Ballon d’ Or last week.

The Portugal captain will rival Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi, Chelsea’s Jorginho, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and among others for the Ballon d’ Or this year.

The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced on Nov. 29.
