Bank workers threaten to shut down over attacks

The union also called for a quick resolve to the issue of naira scarcity in the country.

The National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) has threatened to withdraw the services of its members, following attacks on commercial banks.

Due to the hardship faced by Nigerians to get their hands on cash, there have been several attacks on commercial banks.

Citizens of the country have complained of the hardship faced to get cash from banks to carry out their day to day activities.

In response to the attacks, NUBIFIE’s General Secretary, Mr Mohammed Sheikh has called for protection of it members by security agencies, else they will withdraw their services.

Sheikh also appealed to the Federal Government, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and various stakeholders to help find solution to the hardship brought about by the change of cash withdrawal policy.

He also appealed to Nigerians, who were unable to access their funds deposited in banks, to bear with the situation.

“We, therefore, call on the Central Bank of Nigeria to review cash withdrawal policy which has affected the business of over 200,000 Point of Sales businesses in Nigeria,” he said.
