Bauchi council chairman challenges FRSC to reduce road accidents

The chairman, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Honourable Iliya Habila, on Tuesday challenged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to urgently take action on the alarming rates of road accidents in the area.

Habila stated this when addressing FRSC Unit Officers in his office, informing that various accidents had led to death and incapacitation of some residents of the area, calling on the corps to enforce road traffic rules and regulations to checkmate the ugly trend.

The council chairman noted that there is the need for FRSC personnel to wake up to their responsibilities, particularly in these ’ember’ months when there is increase in movement of people from one area to another.

While saying that incessant road accidents in the area is of great concern to him, Habila admonished road users, particularly drivers plying roads in the area to drive with care and avoid unnecessary overspeeding and rough driving during and after the coming Yuletide period.

Responding, the FRSC Unit Commander, Mr Babale T Sallah, disclosed that a combined team of the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and FRSC personnel had on Tuesday began crackdown on drivers and motorists violating safety and other traffic rules and regulations.

According to Sallah, the combined team was determined to sanction anyone caught violating traffic rules in accordance with the relevant laws and assured that FRSC and other stakeholders would do everything possible to curtail road accidents in the area.

The Unit Commander added that the Corps FRSC was working round the clock during the ’ember’ months period to ensure a hitch-free Yuletide celebrations.
