BREAKING: Court sentences Bolanle Raheem’s killer to death by hanging

The court finally draws the curtain on a case that met the rage of many Nigerians.

A Lagos State High Court has sentenced a policeman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Drambi Vandi to death by hanging for the murder of Barrister Bolanle Raheem.

This ruling, issued by Judge Ibironke Harrison, brings an end to a case that has drawn the attention of many Nigerians.

Recall that the shooting of Bolanle Raheem, a lawyer, took place on Sunday, December 25, 2022, while she was returning home with her family.

The deceased, a pregnant woman, was shot and killed by a policeman attached to Ajiwe police station, Ajah, Lagos.

After several months of prosecution, Vandi, who was the policeman that shot the deceased, has now been sentenced to death by hanging.

According to reports, the State Government steadfastlyaaa pursued a single count of murder against the defendant, Vandi, throughout the proceedings.

Vandi, however, maintained his innocence despite testimonies from the deceased’s husband, sister, a police armorer, a pathologist, and seven others which was presented to the court.

27 exhibits were also submitted to the court in addition to the testimonies presented.

In contrast, Vandi was the sole witness in his defense, as he attempted to deny any involvement in the tragic incident despite many witnesses. He claimed to have never seen the bullet until it was presented in court.

After a thorough review of the evidences and testimonies, Judge Harrison delivered a stern verdict as she declared Vandi guilty of murder: “The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead.”
