The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi, as well as some APC chieftains indefinitely. Other APC top guns that were kicked out include the presidential adviser to the President—Babafemi Ojudu, Oyetunde Ojo, Wole Oluyede, Ayo Ajibade, Femi Adeleye, Akin Akomolafe, Bamigboye Adegoroye, Olusoga Owoeye, Dele Afolabi, Toyin Oluwasola, and Bunmi Ogunleye.

Reasons.

According to a statement made by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ade Ajayi, “the suspension [of the chieftains] is based on the recommendation of the disciplinary committee inaugurated by the SEC (State Executive Committee) to investigate the disobedience of certain members to the NEC (National Executive Committee)…”

The party further explained that the party had directed its members not to institute any court action— as well as to withdraw cases against the party in court, which they failed to do.

As regards Governor Fayemi’s suspension, the party had taken this necessary step because of “his numerous anti-party activities, especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC constitution.”

The party further claimed that just a mere five days before the Edo elections, Fayemi hosted top PDP chieftain, Femi-Fani Kayode in the Ado-Ekiti government house, and planned a coup against Edo APC.

Additionally, the party accused Fayemi of betraying the interests of the party in the Oyo State Gubernatorial elections. In the allegation, Fayemi purportedly supported the PDP candidate, Seyi Makinde and allowing him to obtain victory over his APC counterpart, Bayo Adelabu.

Responses.

Meanwhile, the presidential aide, Mr Ojudu, in a telephone interview with Premium Times, maintained that he, as well as the others, remains a member of the party.

“We are progressives, and we will forever be progressives. Those who claimed to have suspended us are the illegal people. We are challenging the positions they are holding in court and they have no right to even be in the position—let alone suspend members.”

He further accused governor Fayemi as being the brain behind the suspension.

“We can’t be like the governor who is an APC member on paper and PDP at heart. He supported Obaseki and now wants to destroy our party. We won’t allow that.”

In the meantime, Governor Fayemi has refused to comment on the allegation that he supported PDP candidate’s Godwin Obaseki and allowed him to obtain victory in the just concluded Edo state elections.

Crises.

All these are merely an indication that all is not well within the ruling party. Citizens, more than ever, are now becoming conscious that the interests of the common man has been misplaced and replaced with greed, interests, and the hunger for power of the people at the top.

According to the statement, “We note that the All Progressives Congress is a party of progressives and must do things only in line with the law. The APC cannot act against its constitution; hence this intervention became urgently necessary and pertinent before marauders destroy the party permanently.”
