BREAKING: Panic as explosion rocks Ibadan, cause of explosion yet to be determined

The exact location where the blast occurred is still unknown.

Residents of Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo, have been thrown into panic after a loud explosion rocked the city on the evening of Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

The sound of the explosion, as well as its shock waves were felt in many areas of the city such as Bodija, UI, Mokola, Akobo and Secreteriat.

While the cause of the explosion is still unknown, some video clips shared on Twitter showed some of the areas affected by the blast. In some of the videos, lots of houses could be seen in ruin as a result of the impact of the explosion.

The Oyo state government has, however, urged residents via a tweet to stay calm as necessary agencies have been deployed to determine the source and cause of the incident.

In another tweet, the government stated that relevant agencies have been deployed as well to begin search and rescue operations.
