The committee is expected to look into ASUU demands and areas where there seems to be no concensus between the parties involved.

President Muhammadu Buhari has set up a committee to look into the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

This was revealed by the Nigerian Minister for Education, Malam Adamu Adamu after a meeting with Pro Chancellors and Vice chancellors in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, the Federal Government has set up the committee, of which he is the chairman, and involves four Pro Chancellors and four Vice Chancellors.

Adamu revealed that the committee will look into the additional demands of ASUU and also areas where there has been no consensus.

He further added that the committee would also look into the “No work No Pay” agenda instigated by the Federal Government during the negotiations with ASUU.

Asked if the government would review its stance on the “No work, No pay” rule, Adamu said: “There has been an appeal generally for the system to take a second look at that and that is what the committee will look into.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has been on strike for a period of six months- a strike which started on February 14, 2022.

The union went on strike over demands for transparency in the payment methods of university lecturers and staff.
