Catholic Priest Gets Suspended for Banning Igbo Songs in his parish.

A Catholic Priest, Reverend Father James Anelu has been suspended by the Catholic Church for allegedly banning Igbo Songs from being played in his parish.

Reverend Father James who is the parish priest of Holy Trinity Church, Ewu-Owa in Gberigbe, Ikorodu, Lagos State, was said to have allegedly banned igbo songs in his parish in order to ‘contain’ the excesses of Igbo people.

It was also reported that Reverend Father James had angrily stopped a soul-lifting chorus

According to sources, Father James claimed that the Igbo people dominated all church activities in his Benin diocese to the extent of securing a seat as Bishop of the diocese.

According to Reverend Father James, the spirit of God only the geographical languages of the parish.

However, a disclaimer was released which said that the Catholic-Archbishop, Alfred Martins directed Reverend Father James to proceed on an ‘indefinite leave of absence.

According to the letter dated February 7th, Archbishop Alfred said it has come to the notice of the church that Reverend Father James made unacceptable comments about Igbo songs and tribe.

The Archbishop then stated that unsavoury remarks made by Reverend Father James is not acceptable as it does not represent the church’s position of unity amongst all tribes

In his words;

“For these reasons, he has been asked to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence to give an opportunity for thorough investigation of all mattress relating to his ministry on the parish.

“The leave of absence will take place from February 8th, 2022, till further notice.
