Corps members will benefit from the new minimum wage – NYSC

The NYSC warned media outlets to be factual about their reports and to stop perpetrating false reports.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu annouced a new allowance package for serving corps members.

Spokesman for the NYSC Eddy Megwa said this on Monday, while reiterating NYSC’s commitment to providing accurate information.

According to him, claims of a new package for corp members are untrue, however, they will benefit from the new minimum wage once an agreement is reached.

This comes after the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed visited the Ogun State orientation camp in Sagamu to address corps member during their swearing-in ceremony.

“For clarity’s sake, General Ahmed, while addressing corps members, said it is expected that they would benefit from the minimum wage when it is approved, he did not say the President has approved any increment in their allowance,” Megwa said.

He clarified that the DG was there as part of his oversight function to address corps members on issues relating to patriotism, entrepreneurship, community development and many others.

While he expressed his disappointment at media outlets over the misinterpretation of the DG’s words, he urged press members to be factual in their reports to avoid inciting misleading information among stakeholders.
