Denying Nnamdi Kanu bail, a miscarriage of justice – Igbo youths

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has expressed displeasure over the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja denying the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu bail.

DAILY POST earlier reported that the court denied bail application filed by the secessionist who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Justice Njako adjourned the hearing of Kanu’s trial to November 14, 2022.

Reacting, COSEYL, in a statement by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of influencing the decision of the court, stating that the judgement was similar to what the president told Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson during his recent visit.

“The verdict of Justice Binta Njako is the same statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 23, 2022 during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kagali, Kwanda where the President Buhari told the PM Johnson ” remember he jumped bail before, how are we sure he won’t do it again, if he’s admitted to bail?”.

“President Buhari even went further to say he was arrested based on the things he said against his person, meaning that the entire exercise is a gross personal vendetta.

“When did the statement of the President become the verdict or judgement of the court?. Are we running a democratic government or a unitary system of government where only one man determines the fate of millions of Nigerians even when it is unconstitutional, undemocratic and inhuman”.

According to the coalition, the denial of Kanu’s bail despite his present ill-health is inhuman and grossly against his rights to life.

COSEYL called on the international community, including the United Nations and all lovers of democracy to come to the aid of Nigerians, stating that their hard-earned democracy is hanging.
