Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, says the club can ‘dare to hope again’ after the £300m Saudi Arabian-backed takeover was completed on Thursday.
The English Premier League, EPL, approved the takeover on Thursday afternoon.
The English top-flight league gave the approval after receiving ‘legally binding assurances’ that the Saudi state wouldn’t control the club.
The takeover ends Mike Ashley’s controversial 14-year ownership of Newcastle United.
During Ashley’s regime, Newcastle was relegated twice from EPL.
The Magpies, however, bounced back both times and are presently in 19th position this term.
Reacting to the development, Shearer, who remains Newcastle’s all-time record goalscorer, expressed happiness and hope for the club in the near future.
He wrote on Twitter: “Yesssssssss. We can dare to hope again”, with a series of clapping emojis.
