FINALLY! Guinness World Records declares Hilda Baci as new record holder for longest cooking marathon

The Nigerian chef has finally been annouced as the official holder of the record for the longest cooking hours.

Nigerian chef, Hilda ‘Baci’ Bassey has finally been recognised as the record-holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, surpassing previous record holder, Lata Tondon who cooked for 87 hours.

Hilda now holds the record after cooking for 100 hours from May 11th to May 15th.

After her attempt to set the record, many people wondered when Guinness World Records (GWR) was going to annouce her as the official record holder.

However, GWR stated that they were reviewing the evidence to ascertain that it met all conditions required and they would announce in due time.

In a video posted on their official social media page, an official from GWR stated that Hilda fulfilled all the conditions after reviewing the evidence.

According to the official, one of the conditions is that there must be at least two items being cooked and prepared at any time. Also, the name and weight of each item must be submitted with evidence, which Hilda fulfilled.

During the cooking marathon, Hilda had five minutes of rest. Meanwhile, GWR stated that there was a miscalculation with Hilda’s rest break, so they were not able to annouce the 100 hours claim.

Hence, Hilda broke the record by 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Reacting to the tweet announcing her as the new record holder, Hilda wrote; “this is the best news ever omg omg omg thank you so much.”
