“Hala Madrid!”- Real Madrid are Champions League winners for the 14th time

The Spanish champions are European champions yet again for the 14th time.

Spanish champions, Real Madrid have clinched their 14th Champions League title, after defeating Liverpool at the 2022 final of the competition in Paris.

What happened to be a roller-coaster ride for the Spanish giants, has succeeded them. Despite having a rough journey, Real Madrid has managed to show that they are a force to reckon with in the Champions League.

With Madrid playing their 5th Champions League final in 8 years, Liverpool for sure knew what they were in for and no wonder they started on the front foot.

In the first half alone, Liverpool managed 10 shots on goal with 5 on target, although Madrid had Thibaut Courtois to thank for a couple of good saves to keep them in the game. The Spanish champions, however, managed to create only one shot on goal with a Karim Benzema late goal ruled out for offside.

Fast forward to the second half, Madrid started to dominate proceedings. Most especially, their midfield of Casemiro, Toni Kross and Luka Modric started to control the tempo with solid work from the defence.

A quick passage of play from back-to-front saw Real Madrid take the lead via a sublime cross from Valverde which found Vinicius Junior at the far post for a goal in the 59th minute.

Real Madrid began to pile pressure on Liverpool and had three other clear chances to seal it, but had their indecisiveness to blame.

Liverpool continued to push for an equaliser but Courtois remained solid in goal making nine saves in total to seal their 14th European title. No doubt he was the man of the match.

The win means that Madrid has now won the title 14 times; that’s at least twice as many times as any other side in the competition’s history.

Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti, on the other hand, becomes the first manager to win the competition five times out of five finals. Isco, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema, Nacho and Dani Carvajal all join Cristiano Ronaldo with five Champions League titles.
