Nigerian singer KCee has revealed details about a long-running feud between Eedris Abdulkareem and the famed rapper 50 Cent.
The incident occurred in 2004 on a flight during a music tour arranged by Nigerian breweries and has sparked considerable discussion and debate over the years.
KCee’s account aimed to clarify the events surrounding the altercation while defending Eedris Abdulkareem’s behaviour and reputation.
KCee shared his firsthand account of the event on the Honest Bunch Podcast and in an interview with Naija 102 FM. He clarified that contrary to widespread assumption, 50 Cent was not actively involved in the altercation.
Instead, 50 Cent’s staff sparked a fight with Eedris over seating arrangements in the plane’s business class section.
According to KCee, Eedris claimed he was entitled to the same treatment as 50 Cent under a contract with Nigerian Breweries. Eedris refused to leave his seat, resulting in a physical conflict with 50 Cent’s crew.
The event swiftly escalated and drew the attention of Nigeria’s then-President, Olusegun Obasanjo, causing the Inspector General of Police to step in.
KCee further said that his brother, E-Money, who was managing him at the time, had filmed the entire affair with a camcorder.
However, the situation escalated when 50 Cent’s staff forcibly confiscated the recording device to prevent the tape from being released. This aggressive action emphasised the heated mood surrounding the altercation.
Despite the unfavourable attention surrounding the event, KCee supported Eedris Abdulkareem, describing him as enthusiastic about the Nigerian music industry. While noting Eedris’ shortcomings and combative manner, KCee highlighted his contributions to the business.
Other industry stalwarts, including Jaywon and Paul Okoye, expressed similar comments, acknowledging Eedris’s considerable impact on Nigerian music.
KCee’s discoveries shed light on a pivotal era in Nigerian music history, emphasizing the intricacies and tensions that can occur amongst artists.
The episode serves as a reminder of the difficulties and problems that come with popularity and success in the music industry, while also demonstrating the perseverance and enthusiasm of individuals who contribute to its growth and evolution.
