“It’s difficult to sleep at night”- Pochettino says after PSG’s loss to Real Madrid

The PSG boss has admitted that the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow.

Paris Saint-Germain’s manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he finds it difficult to sleep ever since the champions league defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

The French giants went into the return leg of the round of 16 tie with a goal advantage in the first leg of the tie.

Perhaps for a minute, it felt like PSG were going into the next round when Kylian Mbappe scored with an emphatic finish.

But the Ligue 1 giants were left cold when Madrid came roaring back, courtesy of a second-half hat-trick from Karim Benzema which sent the Spanish giants into the quarter-finals.

It was a disappointing result for PSG who had suffered the same fate at the hands of Barcelona and Manchester United in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

During a press conference ahead of their Ligue 1 encounter with Bordeaux, Pochettino expressed his outrage as to how his team lost control of the tie.

“How do I feel? Very upset,” he said.

“If we analyse the two games, here in Paris the whole game and the first 60 minutes in Madrid, the team was superior.

“The way we lost pisses me off, sorry for the word. I have rage, I feel a certain malaise, it’s difficult to sleep at night, but we must assume our responsibilities, to continue, to think about the Ligue 1 title.

“Personally, mentally I am in the middle of the recovery process. This does not mean that I am not strong, I feel ready to fight and take up this challenge.”

Speaking about how the team felt after the defeat, he said: “We are disappointed and so are the players and the whole club.”

“We took a big blow and the last few days have been difficult. There was not much rest and we don’t have much energy.

“We know that we have the responsibility to win the game on Sunday. And about the reception of the fans, it will look like what the fans have decided to do and we understand their disappointment.”

The Ligue 1 leaders face Bordeaux on Sunday as they look to recover from their 1-0 defeat at the hands of OGC Nice prior to the Madrid match. They lead OGC Nice-who are second on the log with 13 points.
