The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has established a National Minimum Tolerable Score of 140, 100, and 100 for admission to universities, polytechnics, and institutes of education, respectively.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, announced this on Saturday during the 2023 Policy Meeting of Tertiary Institutions in Abuja.
JAMB requires a minimum score for admission to universities, polytechnics, and COEs.
He stated that all institutions must follow this guideline and not go below the permitted points.
He also stated that each postsecondary institution must maintain its own minimal level, particularly in terms of institutional screening and grading in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), which must not be less than 50 points.
“All institutions must adhere to this bare minimum.” This means that no institution may fall short of the mark.
“For the 15 private universities that require between 120 and 130 points as a minimum, keep in mind that 140 is sacred and must not be violated.”
“This is because the system put in place will not recognise 139,” he explained.
Oloyede also stated that institutions must not charge candidates more than N2,000 as screening costs.
