Lampard and Bergkamp enter Premier League Hall of Fame

The former Chelsea man has been recognised for his outstanding achievements over a 20-year top-flight career, alongside an Arsenal Legend

Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp are the lastest to join a list of eight player to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. They join Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane in the top-flight history books following a public vote.

The ex-midfield maestro spent two decades playing for three clubs in the Premier League and he has now been recognised with the League’s highest individual honour for his exploits.

Lampard began his career in 1995 at West Ham were he spent six years before signing for Chelsea.

At Chelsea, Lampard recorded success winning three league titles and a player of the season award for the 2004-05 season. He became the club’s all-time record scorer before joining Manchester City in 2014.

After a brief spell at City, He joined MLS side New York City Fc were he called time on his footballing career.

The former England International left the League as the highest scoring midfielder with 177 goals in a total of 609 appearances.

 “As a young lad I remember just wanting to make it into the West Ham team, and looking up to players like Roy Keane, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry so to be mentioned in the same bracket as them is a real honour.” Lampard said after receiving the accolade.

“I am very proud and thankful for the recognition. The key for me was practice and hard work. I had a talent for arriving and scoring goals. I had done it in all the teams that I played for but to score consistently over that period in the Premier League was mostly down to my hard work and dedication to constantly improve.” He added

Denis Bergkamp on the other hand, joined Arsenal in 1995 from Italian giants Inter Milan and won 10 trophies with the club, including three Premier League titles.

Bergkamp was part of the famous 2003/04 Arsenal Invincibles squad and scored 87 goals in 315 League appearances for the club.

“It feels special to be part of a small group of players who got the recognition of playing in the strongest league in the world. I’m honoured.” Bergkamp said of his induction

Eight players are to be inducted into the inaugural Premier League Hall of Fame. So far, six players have been selected from a 23-man shortlist fans can vote from. Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry are the only two automatic inductees.

Two more players are to be inducted from the list including the legendary likes of Tony Adams, Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright, David Beckham, Robbie Fowler, Nemanja Vidic, Andy Cole and Steven Gerrard.

Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole, Matthew Le Tissier, Micheal Owen, Peter Schmeichel, Patrick Viera, John Terry, Sol Campbell, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand are also among the nominees.
