Lewandowski Breaks Bundesliga Goal Scoring Record for a Season

The prolific Polish striker has edged above Gerd Muller on a chart of domestic goal scorers in the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich’s striker, Robert Lewandowski has made Bundesliga history after scoring his 41st goal of the season. That goal means he has now edged above a club legend at the top of the club’s goalscoring charts.

Just last weekend, the Polish striker equalled Gerd Muller’s record for 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season set in 1971-72.

Lewandowski has now raised that bar by scoring his 41st goal of the season, making him the only player to do so for the club.

Bayern had already wrapped up a ninth successive Bundesliga title meaning they went into the last match of the season against Ausburg in relaxed fashion.

With the game already 4-2 to the champions, Hansi Flick was already sure of a befitting send off but Lewandowski had to make an historic mark.

The 32-year old scored is 41st goal in the 90th minute of the game with a composed finish ensuring his name was written in the history books.

That goal means that he has now scored 48 goals in all competitions for the German champions this season.
