There is no doubt that the coming of social media helped many couples to better express love towards each other and flaunt intimate moments in their relationships.
On the flip side, social media has also been the stage where hitherto smitten lovers took each other to the cleaners. Saturday Beats takes a look at celebrity lovers that have been in this situation
Nkechi Blessing and Opeyemi Falegan
Barely a month after her mother’s death in October 2021, controversial actress, Nkechi Blessing, was back on social media with a bang. She flooded her Instagram timeline with pictures and videos of beautiful moments with her boyfriend, Opeyemi Falegan, who happens to be a politician. She noted that Falegan stood by her and supported her during her mother’s burial.
Blessing, who was on vacation with her boyfriend at the time, also announced to her followers that Falegan had given her a Bible as a gift.
Recall that on June 10, 2021, Blessing had posted pictures of both of them beaming with smiles in traditional attire. Though the actress did not say that she had walked down the aisle, many of her fans and members of the public assumed she had gotten married to Falegan, and that those pictures were taken at her wedding.
However, to the surprise of many, the actress and Falegan recently fell out.
In a series of acerbic posts on social media, Blessing claimed that Falegan was not as rich as he portrayed himself to be. According to her, she was actually the one who fed him in the course of their relationship.
On his part, Falegan stated that Blessing dated him for two reasons— money and sex, and that she was disappointed when she did not get what she came for.
The sudden collapse of their relationship surprised many as it was assumed that their relationship would lead to the altar, considering how in love they seemed to be in love with each other.
Korra Obidi and Justin Dean

When the couple had their first daughter, June, their bond was further strengthened and many hailed them as having one of the few thriving marriages in the entertainment industry.
However, many were left with mouths agape when just weeks after welcoming their second daughter, Athena, Justin announced that has was tired of the marriage and would be opting out.
His action generated a lot of backlash as many stated that he should have given the new mother enough time to heal before taking such step.
This was even as he described her as a ‘manipulative’ person who constantly ‘used’ him in the marriage. He wrote, “I am tired of narcissism, cheating and lack of accountability. I have been trying since 2018 to save our marriage and if I don’t do exactly what she says, she divorces me (sic). I have been a prisoner that has his family used against him if she does not get exactly what she wants.”
Tonto Dikeh and Churchill, Kpokpogri
When controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh, got married to a businessman, Churchill Oladunni, in August 2015, many were overjoyed for her.
The early stage of the marriage was seemingly filled with so much love and romance as the couple could not take their hands off each other whenever they came out in public or posted pictures on social media. ‘Drunk in love’, Tonto also adopted her husband’s name on her social media handles.
However, it did not take long before the marriage hit the rocks. It started with allegations from both quarters about domestic violence. It got so bad that Tonto’s family allegedly returned the bride price paid by Churchill.
However, years later, Tonto found love again; this time with Prince Kpokpogri, the chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum.
Revealing to her fans that there was new man in her life, she wrote, “You have shown me that love is best presented as true as it comes. Falling in love with you is like the wildest roller coaster ride.”
This was even as she constantly flaunted the luxury gifts Kpokpogri showered on her.
However, the same way she showered his praises was the same way she dragged him to the cleaners when the relationship ended.
It was alleged that Kpokpogri was cheating on Tonto with several ladies, including dancer and Instagram sensation, Janemena. Audio recordings of Kpokpogri boasting about his sexual escapades went viral.
At the height of the break-up brouhaha, the actress wrote a petition against Kpokpogri, accusing him of blackmail, extortion, threat to life, hacking, obtaining by false pretence and cyber stalking. She also retrieved the Toyota Hillux vehicle she gave him on his birthday.
