Manchester United Forward Anthony Martial Set to Depart as a Free Agent Next Summer

Manchester United Forward Anthony Martial Set to Depart as a Free Agent Next Summer

Manchester United have reportedly rejected the option of extending Anthony Martial’s contract, which ends next summer.

While United hold a one-year extension option, they have opted not to activate it, paving the way for his departure as a free agent.

Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, had previously hinted at ongoing contract talks involving Martial, among other players.

However, the decision not to trigger the extension now suggests that the club is prepared to part ways with the 28-year-old forward.

Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 from Monaco, contributing 90 goals and 55 assists in 317 appearances over eight years.

Despite his fine start at Old Trafford, Martial has struggled for form this season, finding the net only once in 13 Premier League appearances.

The arrival of Rasmus Hojlund Hojlund has further limited his playing time, with just seven starts across all competitions.

During the recent 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, United fans even cheered when Martial was substituted off the field.

With his contract set to expire, Martial is now positioned to explore new opportunities, either departing as a free agent or potentially being sold during the January transfer window.
